Website Development Manager/Programmer

Journalism for Change is seeking to hire a web development manager/programmer for a one-year contract position (with possibility of extension) to manage and contribute to the development of a new site for Iranwire.com, a leading Persian language website and assist in other web development projects. Please note we are simultaneously issuing an RFP for website development and skilled professionals may apply simultaneously to that RFP (https://www.journalismforchange.org/website-rfp).

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage implementation of a new website to replace Iranwire.com, to include:

    • Manage client-vendor relationship in all phases of the project

    • Manage technical aspects of the implementation

    • Provide technical review of website development

    • Skilled applicants may propose undertaking the website programming (back-end and front-end) themselves but should develop a proposal under the RFP referenced above and indicate how they would handle other aspects of the project.

  • Manage technical oversight and troubleshooting of our web platforms (iranwire.com/fa, iranwire.com/en, iranwirearabic.com, journalismisnotacrime.com) and associated databases.

  • Assist in developing new website functionalities (dynamic mapping, databases, etc.) and new websites as needed for our work.

  • Other technical duties as assigned that advance JFC's mission and project success.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field

  • Five or more years experience in website design to include: managing project implementation, coding, testing, technical support.

  • Demonstrated understanding of requirements of dynamic news and information websites, including security and accessibility.

  • Proficiency with programming languages such as python or javascript, and HTML and CSS.

  • Ability to anticipate challenges and solve problems independently

  • Strong interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills, professionalism in written correspondence and report writing, excellent presentation and oral communication skills

  • Proven organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail, including the ability to prioritize

  • Speaking, reading and writing proficiency in English and Persian strongly preferred with additional Arabic proficiency preferred.

Location: This position may be remote in the US or the UK but requires close communication with offices in London and Washington, DC and adherence to deadlines set by those offices and relevant to those time zones.
