Journalism for Change is seeking a part-time, temporary website technical advisor(s) to provide technical oversight and guidance to the organization on upgrades to a news media site and guidance on future development of the site. Interested applicants may apply for one or both of the two listed tasks.
We expect the following responsibilities to be core to the position:
Current Website Maintenance and Upgrades:
Coordinate and supervise outsourced website developers when upgrades or new code is developed, tested and deployed.
Undertake quality assurance of updates or new code.
Ensure website meets security standards to best protect sensitive information and prevent hacking
Ensure website is resilient to DoS attacks
Ensure website operates efficiently for end users
Strategic Website Development:
Advise on future website needs including most appropriate platforms/architecture that account for anticipated traffic, security issues, cost-efficiency, ease of maintenance/upgrading, and ease of use of CMS for non-technical media staff
Advise on staffing needs/structure to ensure website maintenance
Skills and Experience
Ten years web design and development experience
Experience working with high traffic media websites
Knowledge of Django and Python for current website
Knowledge of platforms/architecture for website development to include Django CMS, Drupal, WordPress, Joomla, etc. in order to advise on best solutions
